Thoughts of Michael's Letter
In the letter, Michael expresses his thoughts that has been running through his mind non stop. He shared his real identity to his mother. He was being transparent. Although Michael's friends doubted him in writing the letter, he didn't cared anyway because for him, it is an act of love, he wants to share his life with his mother openly and freely. He wrote what he sees in his perspective and wished that if only there's someone who can guide him and assures him that it's okay to be different. At the end of the letter, he reassured her mother that he is still the same Michael that she knew but this time she knows him better.
Being in Michael's shoes is difficult, I admit. Transparency leads us to freedom. I feel very proud
for Michael because he choose to be transparent, to be an open book to his mom. And it takes a lot of courage to do that. He is brave. Aside from being proud, I am also extremely happy because at last, he's free. There's no burden in his shoulders anymore. And lastly, I feel sad because I never imagined what he been through before coming out. The thought how Michael doesn't understand what he's been feeling and wishes that if only there's someone who can help him.
These days, its hard to express your thoughts, your identity or anything that shows the real you because one wrong move, everyone judges you, everyone laughs at you for being too pure. Its hard to come out in the shell. And its heartbreaking when many people or kids end their lives because there's no one they can talk to or to vent some thoughts and feelings out and they beat their selves up even though they don't deserve it. Expressing is hard. I know it takes a lot of courage and I'm proud how everyone overcomes this fear.
One of the problems that we are facing right now is Gender Discrimination. Gender Discrimination also known as sexual discrimination, is any action that specifically denies opportunities, privileges, or rewards to a person (or a group) because of gender. A lot of people have experienced this thing. With this existing problem, a lot of things has been affected such as in the economy, the reputation of ourselves and more. For me, Gender Discrimination is such a huge thing because the impact of that to a person's emotional health is not good. He might end up being depressed because of it. He might lose himself and his mind.
One thing that I have learned is never judge someone by his appearances, on how they act and what their gender is. Always be kind to everyone. This world would be a better place if we just help each other out.
We all know that telling the truth is difficult. Whether if its about confessing to the person you like or telling the people you love dearly the real you because its better when they hear it from you, not from anyone else. Being truthful is an act of courage and just like Michael, he is brave. We are all aware that this isn't easy to be done specially when you're afraid that they might be disappointed at you. two things that I can do for people like Michael is to be understanding and to assure them. People like Michael is somewhat new to these kind of stuffs. They need someone to guide them. They need someone who can be there for them when they need it whether if its good or bad. But not just them, we all need that someone too.
